Digital Transformation in Healthcare — What to Expect in 2020 and Beyond

hands holding a 2020 sign under a transparent layer of connected data points

The digital experience that you have in airlines, banking, retail, and service, in every other part of the world, are really not replicated yet in healthcare. These advancements made in other industries have given consumers a better overall experience through interoperability and free-flowing data. While the healthcare industry has made some strides towards digital transformation (DX), there is still a long way to go.

There has not been much DX movement over the past 30 to 40 years in healthcare, therefore it is critical that organizations, health systems, payers and other groups make an effort towards DX to create sustainable HIE’s in 2020 and beyond. This starts with providing a more digital experience for patients to create a smoother and more optimized processing of data.

So, why have some industries become more efficient than others when it comes to utilizing this data? How can the healthcare industry use technology, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, in a meaningful way to enhance interoperability and decentralize healthcare without fragmenting it?

Don Woodlock, VP of InterSystems HealthShare, spoke with Dr. Bob Kaiser, Clinical Professor at Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT Dallas, about digital transformation and the quest for greater interoperability in 2020 and beyond.
