Advisory: Error in the Matching Weight for Name Frequency when Using a Non-Default Locale in Patient Index

This problem affects the following products:

  • HealthShare® Patient Index, all versions earlier than 2024.1:
    • 15.03
    • 2018.1
    • 2019.1
    • 2019.2
    • 2020.1
    • 2020.2
    • 2021.1
    • 2021.2
    • 2022.1
    • 2022.2
    • 2023.1
    • 2023.2

Requirements:

  • Non-default locale with name frequencies calculated based upon a patient population

The default Patient Index configuration uses a “USA” locale setting, where name frequencies are calculated using US Census data. Some customers opt to create their own locale profile and calculate name frequencies based upon their patient population for that locale profile.

If a site created their own locale profile with name frequencies calculated based upon their patient population, the frequency adjustment weight was being miscalculated by Patient Index. There is a code fix to correct the name frequency adjustment weight to improve patient matching accuracy.

The correction for this defect is identified as HSPI-3167 which is included in HealthShare Patient Index version 2024.1 and later product releases. It is also available for older versions via ad hoc change file (patch) or full kit from the Worldwide Response Center (WRC).

After applying the patch, Name frequencies need to be scanned and an “Incremental Linkage Rebuild” must be performed in order for the change to take effect.
