By now, you may have already heard that we’re currently offering all of our existing Caché and Ensemble customers the opportunity to migrate to our next generation data platform, InterSystems IRIS, for free for a limited time.

While we’re still committed to supporting our Caché database and Ensemble integration platform, InterSystems IRIS is where the action is. It combines all of the capabilities of Caché and Ensemble, and adds a wealth of exciting, powerful new features, ranging from machine learning to native Python.

That’s exactly why we’re offering existing customers the opportunity to migrate to InterSystems IRIS and unlock the benefits of these new features. We’ve made it easy to migrate too, with in-place migration support, which means no database conversion, step by step migration guides, tutorials, and more.

Sound interesting? Here are five of the top reasons why current Caché and Ensemble developers should migrate to InterSystems IRIS.

1. Tools tailored to your needs

InterSystems IRIS features standard tools such as the Visual Studio Code editor tailored to the needs of InterSystems IRIS developers. InterSystems IRIS allows you run applications in containers, work in Kubernetes, and easily deploy in the cloud of your choice, just for starters.

2. Machine Learning for SQL developers

Our IntegratedML capability, embedded within InterSystems IRIS, enables SQL developers to easily develop machine learning models with just a few SQL-like commands without being experts in data science or machine learning tooling. On top of that, these capabilities enable you to seamlessly embed machine learning models into InterSystems IRIS applications to transform them into machine learning-enabled intelligent applications.

3. Increased productivity with Embedded Python

Our next-generation technology makes application developers more productive thanks to built-in, server side support for Python. All of the powerful capabilities can be invoked with either Python or ObjectScript, and your Python code can interact seamlessly with ObjectScript code. In addition, we provide extensive client-side support for a whole host of development languages, including Python, Java, C#, and Node.js.

4. Preparing your applications for InterSystems IRIS

We have documented the differences between Caché and Ensemble, and InterSystems IRIS. In some cases, you may need to make some adjustments to your existing application to the meet the requirements associated with InterSystems IRIS.

Alternatively, you could adopt a common code base that is compatible with Caché, Ensemble, and InterSystems IRIS. This approach has the benefit of allowing you to start immediately, ensuring you only have one code base to maintain, and eliminates any additional adjustments when the migration is performed. This is a common approach that has been adopted by many of our largest customers.

5. Ease of migration

Migrating your existing Caché and Ensemble applications to InterSystems IRIS is fast, easy, and proven. Check out our ‘ Migrating to InterSystems IRIS’ how-to guide which you can download from our Worldwide Response Center (WRC login required) to ensure a seamless migration.

No time better than now

Migration is just the start of the journey, so to guarantee you get the most from the wide range of InterSystems IRIS features, we’ve created a variety of documentation, videos, and online learning resources to help you unlock all of these powerful capabilities.
