SAN DIEGO and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 26, 2018 – Edico Genome and InterSystems today announced a new partnership to integrate Edico Genome’s DRAGEN Clinical Genomics Information System (CGIS) into the broader healthcare ecosystem. This partnership expands upon Edico Genome’s existing agreements with leading tertiary analysis providers and leverages the world-class healthcare IT solutions and expertise of InterSystems to allow physicians to easily order a genomic test at point of care and enable comprehensive data analysis through seamless exchange of clinical and genomic information across the entire patient electronic medical record (EMR).
Through this partnership, DRAGEN CGIS will leverage the power of InterSystems HealthShare HealthConnect to exchange and communicate genetic information in a bi-directional manner. This will enable the harmonization of big data generated by next-generation sequencing (NGS) within the context of the broader healthcare information technology (IT) ecosystem, ensuring patient data is fully integrated when reviewing an individual’s genomic profile. By integrating data from patient’s records into the NGS workflow, interpretation of genomic insights can be more confidently assessed given the richer clinical and phenotypic context available.
Health Connect is a next-generation interoperability platform designed specifically for the demands of today’s healthcare environment. The platform delivers the high-volume transaction support, unparalleled process management and continuous monitoring required for the “always on” business of healthcare.
“Our goal is to make it as simple and seamless as possible for labs of all sizes to start using NGS in routine clinical care, and DRAGEN is fundamental in making this economically feasible,” said Pieter van Rooyen, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer at Edico Genome. “Through our partnership with InterSystems, we are able to seamlessly integrate DRAGEN CGIS into the broader healthcare ecosystem day-to-day workflow and operations, enabling patient’s genetic and clinical data to be easily reviewed together and potentially leading to richer insights.”
Edico Genome’s CGIS is a comprehensive clinical genomics system designed to enable clinical labs to quickly and efficiently develop laboratory-developed tests (LDTs). DRAGEN CGIS integrates Edico Genome’s Complete Suite of Somatic, Germline, Joint Genotyping and RNA Gene Fusion pipelines with upstream and downstream partnerships, including with Fabric Genomics, to offer a complete out-of-the-box, go-to-market solution for developing sequencing-based LDTs. DRAGEN CGIS encompasses sample accessioning from start to finish, including lab tracking, secondary and tertiary analysis of NGS data, EMR integration, test kit offerings and an implementation starters toolkit.
“Next-generation sequencing is a key frontier of medicine, and we are proud to support Edico Genome’s leading-edge work in this area,” said Paul Grabscheid, vice president of strategy for InterSystems. “By ensuring seamless connectivity between a patient’s genomic testing and their longitudinal health record, this partnership will give clinicians and patients alike better visibility into their complete health.”
